In celebration of the summer festival season, here is First We Love’s first music playlist! You’ll find some of these tunes on the festival circuit this year, others from years gone by, but they’ve all got that certain something that makes a live music experience so special.
With the radio here so full of songs in English, it’s easy to forget how much music the rest of the world beyond North America and Britain has to offer. Festivals are a brilliant way to expand your horizons and get exposed to the unexpected, entrusting yourself to the curators or a chance recommendation.
We’ve pitched our tent, popped-on our festival outfit and followed the crowd from the camping ground towards the stage, so it must be time to soak-up some music…
Metronomy ease us in with a breezy, summery, indie number, then it’s up to Alabama Shakes and White Denim, two stunning live bands, to transport us off to the southern USA. Next we have flavours of New Zealand, Colombia and West Africa courtesy of three acts that would be sure to have you up on your feet and dancing. Act-of-the-moment Disclosure and a classic from Joe Goddard keep up the dance pace, then we’re into a few big hits from two more unmissable live acts – Imagine Dragons and Wolf Alice.
Sharon Van Etten and James Blake bring us back down to earth and give us a chance to explore the kind of alternative sounds that take on a special significance when shared with a crowd of festival-goers. The Flaming Lips round-off the last evening of our virtual festival with a meditative singalong that marks the memory of anyone lucky enough to have been there.
